Academic Integrity

The assignment given today in English Lab was for us in groups to give our own definition and examples of academic integrity. I was unaware that Clemson had its own website regarding their terms of academic integrity, so that was an interesting point to todays lecture. I don't know about everyone else in the class but I feel like "academic integrity" has been engraved in my brain since my first writing assignment in middle school. I am well aware that plagiarism is bad and that you shouldn't claim other peoples ideas. Todays academic integrity lesson was definitely beneficial but more as a refresher than new material.

Then and Now

Last semester, much like many others in my English class, was my first semester here at Clemson University. I quickly adapted and learned alot about the University and the campus where I am living. Now that my first semester has ended and second semester is well underway, I can definitely say my outlook has changed. I feel like I belong here at my home away from home. I've heard that once you come back from winter break after your first semester at Clemson the campus feels different in a good way, and to be honest I didn't really believe it. However I now understand what those students were talking about!

My Expectations for English

I have taken many English classes in my life and for the most part have enjoyed them all. I have learned a lot about how to become a better writer and how to put my thoughts onto paper and I basically expect this English 103 class to be about the same. I expect to be involved in research and writing assignments that require a lot of outside classroom attention. I enjoy writing as long as I understand and can relate to what I am writing about. So far I am excited about our first writing assignment. Discussing and arguing one side of a problem is almost a hobby of mine. I do it quite often and sometimes it gets me in trouble. I also am excited about both assignments in our lab. I think I am going to have a lot of fun going around taking pictures and completing our first assignment! I haven’t decided on what exactly I am going to choose but my creativity will definitely make it interesting and entertaining. My roommate completed English last semester and I remember him browsing through songs looking for songs that describe his life! I was really jealous because I was either struggling through physics or cramming in calculus so anything but what I was doing seemed ideal to me. I am excited for this assignment.

Overall I expect English 103 to not only be educational and helpful with my writing and skills as a writer, but also to be entertaining and interesting. The first three weeks of classes have gone pretty well and I am really happy with both English classes. They both seem like they will be very beneficial and enjoyable!
